Train Strikes March 2024

Train Strikes March 2024

Is there anyone who can recall life in London before to the train strikes march 2024? It has been more than 18 months since the UK was mercifully free of rail strikes since union members began to walk out back in the summer of 2022. And there is no indication that industrial action will end soon.

There are now no planned train strikes by the ASLEF or RMT unions, following a stormy February marked by nationwide ASLEF strikes and last-minute cancellations of RMT action. Savour this moment while it's still here!

Although no new strikes have been announced, industrial action is unlikely to end anytime soon as ASLEF drivers on many operators just decided to go on strike through at least August. Better news: RMT employees' strike on non-TfL services is currently on hold as a result of a vote by union members taken just before Christmas to postpone strikes until later this spring.

Do rail strikes occur in March 2024?

There are no more planned strikes for London train services following the most recent walkouts that disrupted LNER and Northern services on March 1 (along with an overtime ban from February 29 to March 2). We can anticipate more disruptions in the near future, though, unless agreements between the government and rail unions are made.

When are the March train strikes?

Train drivers protested to both train operators on Friday, March 1, leading to the cancellation of all Northern trains and the majority of LNER services. The ongoing pay and conditions issue at the centre of the nationwide rail strikes that started in the summer of 2022 is unrelated to these walk-outs.

Is March 30th a train strike day?

The RMT stated that 'a resolution to resolve the current national rail dispute through a new offer could result from the idea put up by the RDG.'As a result, the NEC has postponed the March 30 and April 1 strike actions.

When will the train strike in 2024?

London TravelWatch: Train strikes in February and March 2024 - LNER and Northern:

The ASLEF has declared that on Friday, March 1, train employees on Northern and London Northern Eastern Railways (LNER) will go on strike. There will be some service disruptions from Thursday, February 29 to Saturday, March 2, due to the overtime ban that will be in effect during the strikes.

Why do train strikes occur so frequently?

What is the subject of the strikes? According to Aslef, drivers are being urged to forgo better working conditions in return for wage increases that are less than inflation. Aslef is fighting for higher pay for its members. Its executive committee turned down two years in a succession of 4% wage increases in April 2023. No formal discussions have taken place since.

Are trains going on strike on March 1st?

Members of the Aslef Union who work for the two train companies, LNER and Northern, are scheduled to go on a 24-hour walkout starting at midnight on Friday, March 1. The majority of the LNER route will only have a curtailed service, and there won't be any Northern trains, passengers have been informed.
