Police, fire and ambulance services remain in attendance at a major incident after an explosion on an artificial estate in which one person is said to be unaccounted for. A fire broke out on Treforest Industrial Estate, Rhondda Cynon Taf, in the early evening on Wednesday, December 13, but has redounded in no serious injuries, police have said.

Police said before they were at the scene of a" major incident" on Severn Road, Treforest. In a statement on X, South Wales Police said" We're at the scene of a serious incident on Severn Road, Treforest. The roads around the Industrial Estate are presently closed and are anticipated to remain as similar for some time. Please avoid the area."

In an update at1.39 pm, South Wales Police said exigency services remained at the scene, adding" There are no reports of any serious injuries. still, one person remains unaccounted for. residers living hard are advised to close all doors and windows while this incident is continuing.

" Businesses in the area are requested to apply their own business durability plans to deal with the on- going road closures which will affect them throughout the night and into the morning. Significant road closures remain in place and the public is requested to avoid the area.

Deputy Chief Fire Officer Dewi Rose said “ At7.05 pm this evening SWFRS responded to reprise calls about an explosion at Mindset Gym, Rizla House, Severn Road on Treforest Industrial Estate, Pontypridd. SWFRS presently has 16 pumping appliances, a number of special appliances and officers in attendance. The rearmost from the scene is that the structure, a largemulti-use use two- storey, marketable demesne, is completely alight and at threat of collapse.

“ Our mates from South Wales Police, WAST, Wales & West Utilities, NRW, RCTCBC, CTMUHB and National Grid are supporting us to deal with the incident, and at the moment our focus is forcefully fixed on the exigency response. ”

The Welsh Ambulance Service verified 10 exigency ambulances, seven rapid-fire response vehicles and the Hazardous Area Response Team had been transferred to the scene. It said a major incident had been declared because the coffers demanded to respond had compromised the ambulance service's capability to get to other cases in the community.

But in an update at night, Jonathan Sweet, Welsh Ambulance Service strategic commander, added “ The major incident that the Welsh Ambulance Service declared tonight, in response to a large fire at Treforest Industrial Estate on Severn Road in Pontypridd, has now been stood down. The decision was taken because we're no longer needed to treat cases at the scene and to allow further of our coffers to attend to extremities within the community. We treated three cases at the scene before discharging them. ”

People reported hail and feeling a' loud bang,' with one adding" My house was rattling, must have been a big explosion."

Charlotte Preen, a FAW football trainer, said one of her groups was training hard when she heard an explosion- which some of the players allowed was a firework.

She said" The structure shook, and a lot of humidity came from the ceiling. It was veritably strong. Some of the players were relatively concerned, obviously realising it sounded a bit louder than a firework. We have been streamlined that there was some form of serious explosion in the artificial estate. Parents set up it really delicate to pick up their children( after the session), unfortunately."

Jonny Foxhall, 36, the proprietor of near music venue herbage Apartments, told the PA news agency “ Our frontal door was slung open so we went out to see what had happed. We could see a bank pall and an orange gleam from above the treeline snappily followed by dears." He added “ To feel the shockwave from the explosion is commodity I ’ve noway endured before. ”

Phill Jones from Llantrisant told the BBC he was driving on the A473 with his eight- time-old son at about7.15 pm when he saw" a really loud bang and a flash of light." He added" My first response was' Who's letting off fireworks on a Wednesday night? There was a big dynamo up in the sky. I swerved the auto a little bit and my son got relatively animated. The way it went up, it was nearly as if commodity had exploded."
